Corn Dental Floss

Most dental floss is made of nylon or Teflon (neither are biodegradable) and packaged in plastic. So while each piece of dental floss is tiny, over time that's a lot of waste that ends up in landfill (or worse, flushed down the toilet). And that's before we factor in dental flossers - a single-use length of floss with a plastic handle!

Instead, this corn based dental floss are made from premium, pure materials found only in nature. The floss is coated in a plant-based candelilla wax, ensuring it easily degrades back in to nature after use without any negative effects on the environment and come in recyclable glass jars with a metal dispenser lid.

How to use

Use the floss as you would normally by pulling out around 30cm of floss and wrapping the floss around your thumb to control the position. Floss slowly between each tooth, being sure to reach close to the gum line.

One jar supplies 30 metres of floss, giving you approximately 100 uses. Refills are coming soon - meaning you'll be able to reuse the glass jar!

Disposal

Used floss should be put in your general waste - it will degrade naturally.

Plastic waste is a huge problem. Everyday plastic products such as bottles, bags, and packaging languishes in landfill and pollutes our oceans.

But the problem with plastic comes at the end of its life. Plastic doesn’t break down. Instead, it breaks up, into smaller and smaller pieces, called microplastics. Some microplastics are so small, they’re invisible to the naked eye. It’s estimated that there are 51 trillion pieces of plastic and microplastic in the world’s oceans and that number is only set to rise.

It’s thought that every single piece of plastic ever produced, still exists in one form or another. Whether in our homes, in landfill, in the ocean or recycled or repurposed into something else.

The majority of toothbrushes are made from plastic, and dental floss is usually coated in plastic. Most toothpastes are in plastic tubes, and mouthwashes are usually in plastic bottles.

If each one of us changed our toothbrush four times a year, that’s 320 each in a lifetime. There’s around 67 million people living in the UK, so that’s potentially 268 million toothbrushes sent to landfill each year. From the UK alone.
